Artist's Comments

This was a project for my AP class. It was supposed to be a self-expressive piece of work so I spent a few days thinking of what I should do and I came up with the idea of using dictionary pages. Only one of them is expressive of me though. You can't see it in this picture but one of the pages says "shapeless" on the top. It's a very subtle point but thats how I wanted it to be. Another meaning that can be extracted from this piece is that I cannot be defined.
This is very similar to my previous Peculiar Penalty painting ( [link] ).
Do tell me what you think.

wow, that's really awesome! i love the manilla tone that the highlights have; gives an almost 'familiar' feeling to it. i also really like that the text is too small to be legible, it sets a sort of 'anonymous' flavor that mixes very interestingly with the familiar, home-like feeling of the off-white in the piece. it's nice how the paint roughly envelops the edges of the pages agains the canvas. very well done; a favorite!

The frantic drip marks make me feel as though a strong wind was blowing these pages around...
I love this speed and intensity

I love how this piece is both straight-forward and mysterious. The way the pages are placed and the paint is almost scattered across the work is very aesthetically pleasing. I would've given you a definite A for this project. What kind of AP art class is it?

I want to paint the way I feel the sky over my head, the earth beneath my feet, and all the in-betweens.

Canvas comes to life.
